Surrounding hills, valleys and forests will thrill both
walkers and trekkers. Simiane’s
way-marked tracks, especially the GR4, cater for travellers
on foot, VTT or on horseback. Hidden among the woods are
hamlets, large farms, remains of drystone constructions
- walls, shelters (“bories”) and sheepfolds.
Another possibility is to explore the gorges of Oppedette.
Cyclists can ride on le Plateau d’Albion, 850 metres
up, to Sault and beyond, for an attempt on Le Mont
Ventoux (1912 metres), 50 kms away, considered
as the Mount Olympus of cycling. The Luberon
hills and Lure mountain, both popular
with hikers, are close by. Hang-gliding and caving are
other local activities.
