L’atelier des ocres Exhibition and sale of coloured sand pictures using local ochres.
Jacques Blin et Patricia Olive - 04 92 75 96 07 - http://jacques.blin.monsite.orange.fr

From the seam of ochre which extends from Rustrel to Roussillon by way of Viens, Gignac, Villars and Gargas, we extract with great care twenty-one shades of natural minerals. These coloured clays, yellow ochres, orange ochres, red ochres, greens, blues, violets, whites and greys, these black and beige coloured sands and these brown soils are pounded in a mortar then sieved into different sized particles. A sketch is drawn onto a wooden panel and the different coloured minerals are applied by hand onto the surface which is prepared with glue. Artificial or natural light reveals the nuances and the relief of the picture according to its orientation.
